Trying to think up an easy holiday gift idea? I came up with this really easy, no-sew scarf idea. This project really only takes 15-30 minutes, so it works great for last minute gifts around the holidays. By braiding the fleece this scarf has more detail too it than the basic diy fleece scarf.
I made this scarf using a remnant piece of fleece I picked up a few months ago, but any left over fleece will do. (Great deals from Fabric.com! Click here) This piece was just under 1/2 a yard. While standing in line to have other fabric cut, I saw this beauty and with one touch I was sold. This grey fleece is supper soft and comfortable and I just new I could make a great scarf with it!
Step 1: Roll out your piece of fleece in a flat area. I choose the floor, but a nice long table would work great too.
Step 2: Take a pair of scissors and cut your fleece into thirds along the long way of the fabric, stopping short about 3-4 inches from the end. Cut one of the the thirds into thirds again so that you end up with 5 sections all connected by one end.
Step 3: Cut tassels into the remaining 3-4 inches of fabric, leaving a small gap so that you do not cut through to the original cut lines. You want the fabric to remain in once piece.
Step 4: Tie a nice, tight knot at the end leading up the the tassels. Cut tassels into the second side on each of your strips of fleece.
Step 5: Taking the three smaller strips of your scarf, braid loosely until your reach your tassels. Wezley couldn’t resist hopping into at least once picture. I think he was mad that I was using this fabric finally. I found him curled up with it loving how soft it feels a few nights ago.
Step 6: You should now have two strips of fleece and your one braid remaining. Braid the three together until you reach your tassels at the end.
Step 7: Tie a nice tight knot into the end of your braid right before the tassels. And you are done! Such an easy project for a unique handmade scarf
